General information - The Lombardoi is an aggressive cichlid from Lake Malawi. The juveniles have bright blue colors but as they mature, the females become more of a pale blue and the males become bright yellow. Common Name - Lombardoi, Kennyi Mbuna Scientific Name - Metriaclima (Pseudotropheus) Lombardoi Family – Cichlidae Origin - Mbenji Island, Lake Malawi Size – 12 cm (5 inches) First discovered - Burgess, 1977 Nutrition – the Lombardoi should be given a diet containing mostly vegetable-based foods supplemented with meaty type foods. Will accept commercial food such as flakes and pellets. Behavior - aggressive
Maintenance and care – Minimum Tank Capacity: 60 gallons.the Lombardoi needs to be kept in a Mbuna tank stocked with plenty of rocks and plenty room to swim, should be kept with other Mbuna species with similar size and behavior. Peaceful Mbuna species can not be kept with the Lombardoi in the same tank. Best kept as a single male and at least 3 females. Water Parameters – temperature: 24C-26C, PH: 7.5-8.2, DH: 10-20 Breeding - Very easy to breed. Like other Mbuna this is a maternal mouthbrooder. It takes about 21-28 days for fry to emerge once the mother starts holding eggs in her mouth. Fry which grow very fast should be fed crushed cichlid flake or newly hatched brine shrimp.
